Founder

Candace Hughes ’84

Dr. Candace Hughes has over 30 years of experience in education and leadership. She is an independent consultant specializing in career readiness, curriculum design, staff development, and corporate training. Dr. Hughes also works as a Success Coach, supporting adult learners seeking higher education. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, as well as a Master’s and Doctorate in Educational Leadership.

Dr. Hughes has an extensive background in dance and has been a dancer and choreographer for nearly four decades. She also enjoys giving back by offering educational workshops for underserved communities. As President, Dr. Hughes is committed to enriching the experiences of alumni, students, staff, and the community.

Melody Meade ’84

Melody Meade, a proud Franklin High School graduate, brings nearly 37 years of leadership experience in corporate communications, technology strategy, and digital engagement. As a former Director of Corporate Communications at Johnson & Johnson, she provided strategic counsel to senior executives and led enterprise-wide engagement initiatives. 

Holding a Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Eastern University, Melody is passionate about community building and previously served on the Foundation Board for Millhill Child & Family Development.  As Vice President of the Franklin High School Alumni Association, she is dedicated to strengthening alumni connections, expanding outreach, and fostering opportunities for future generations.

Marva Irias ’87

Marva Irias, a U.S. Veteran from Somerset, NJ, transitioned from military service to a career as a Court Reporter and now works in corporate Provider Enrollment and credentialing. Living in Charlotte, NC, she has over a decade of experience in the healthcare industry.

A passionate dancer and community advocate, Marva serves on the Franklin High School Alumni Board and was the first Student Liaison on the Board of Education. Dedicated to youth development, she aims to strengthen the alumni network and support her community.

Sonia Robinson ’85

Sonia Robinson brings diverse experience to the Alumni Association Board. She has built a successful career in insurance and telecommunication, while also owning a travel agency and serving as a certified Notary Public and licensed Wedding Officiant. 

As Recording Secretary for the Franklin High School Alumni Association in Somerset, NJ, Sonia is deeply committed to fostering a strong sense of community and engagement among alumni. She is dedicated to ensuring transparency and organization within the association, creating a foundation for lasting connections and continued involvement.

Darrin Brooks ’83

Darrin Brooks is an entrepreneur, community leader, and U.S. Army veteran from Somerset, NJ. He is the Treasurer and a founding member of the Franklin High School Alumni Association, as well as the owner of a graphic design and business company. Darrin also works at a Fortune 500 company, contributing to operations and decision-making.

He is actively involved in the Prince Hall Masonic Lodge and the Fayetteville, NC Ruff Ryder Lifestyle Club. Darrin is dedicated to service and making a positive impact in his community.

Marie Johnson ’84

Marie Johnson, a Franklin High School class of 1984 graduate, is the CEO of Jaymist Consulting, with 20+ years in project management for Fortune 500 companies. As a Director of the Alumni Association, she focuses on mentorship and outreach. She holds a Bachelor’s in Network & Communications Management and PMP certification. A former track athlete, she enjoys gardening, traveling, and cycling for charity.

Anthony Williams ’84

Anthony Williams, a Franklin High School Class of 1984 graduate, serves as Chair of the Alumni Association’s Advisory Committee. With a background in military service and a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, Anthony has held various leadership roles, including Senior Engineering Manager, where he oversaw large-scale projects and teams. 

Enthusiastic about mentoring youth, Anthony aims to create a system that helps students navigate their career paths. He is also a lifelong student of martial arts and an instructor, teaching discipline and perseverance. A dedicated Pittsburgh Steelers fan, Anthony is committed to giving back to the community and fostering future leaders.
